How can I get more information about the TLS Web project and the AIR Web site?
What is the AIR web site?
The AIR web site is the creation of the Teaching and Learning Support (TLS) Web Project. It will provide instructors with consistent anytime/anywhere online accessibility to teaching, learning, and curriculum management resources. Capitalizing on advances in technology, the AIR web site will empower instructors and course developers by facilitating communication and collaboration, and enabling sharing of curricular innovation at Red River College.
What are the major components of the AIR web site?
Major components of the AIR web site are instructor resources such as links, tutorials, and content pages, plus a learning objects repository (LOR) for sharing digital assets and learning objects. It will also feature Sharepoint, online software that facilitates college-wide communication and collaboration.
Is the AIR web site replacing something that already exists?
No, this site will provide centralized and comprehensive access to instructor resources, some that already exist, but are located in a number of different places, and others that do not currently exist.
Who will use the AIR web site?
In addition to instructors, for whom the site is designed, it is anticipated that Chairs, Program Officers, program coordinators, curriculum developers, and academic support staff will also benefit from the web site. In addition, many other staff may find some functions of the learning object repository software to be useful, particularly the extended search feature.
When will the AIR web site be available to all RRC staff?
The launch date for the site is Tuesday, May 9, 2006.
Where did the name “AIR” come from?
Bev Snell, Early Childhood Education instructor, submitted the winning name in the “Name the Site” contest held in December/05. Of the over 100 submissions, the selection panel felt that it most clearly described the intention of the web site and formed a creative acronym.
What is the TLS Web project and why is it important?
This 3 year project addresses the RRC Strategic Plan objectives for quality improvements in faculty support to increase effectiveness of teaching, learning, and curriculum development and management. By creating an online site, instructors will be able to access resources in one location, 24 hours/ day - 7 days/ week, as needed. This site will benefit instructors by facilitating communication, enabling collaboration, and enhancing the management of evolving curricular innovation at RRC. As an example, the AIR web site will facilitate the delivery of the CAE program to ensure that all instructors receive timely training in adult education.
Where did the money come from?
In July 2004, the Council on Post- Secondary Education's (COPSE) granted funding of $50,000 / year for three years from its System Restructuring Envelope Fund to develop online support for faculty.
When will the TLS Web project be finished?
The funding for the 3 year TLS Web project will finish on June 30, 2007, however, the AIR Web site will live on as a dynamic one-stop resource for instructors.
Who is involved in the TLS Web project?
The project is supported by Ken Webb, VP Academic, representatives of Senior Academic Committee (SAC), and Paul Little, Dean, Education, Curriculum, & Learning Resources.
The work of the TLS Web project is guided by the project management team, an Advisory Committee with College-wide representation, five task teams drawn largely from the Advisory Committee, and a Web Designer hired under contract. The Project Management Team consists of Jody Baty, Program Officer, Distance Education; Paddy Burt, Head Librarian; and Craig Edwards, Curriculum Consultant, Program and Curriculum Development and is supported by Mike Stuhldreier, Acting Manager, Program and Curriculum Development.
Is Computer Services involved in the TLS Web project?
Yes, the project is supported by John Baryliuk, Acting Chief Technology Officer, and Don Wiebe, Supervisor, Data Base Administration, both of whom have been involved from year 1.
What is the purpose of the Advisory Committee?
The purpose of the Advisory Committee is to provide valued input and feedback on the AIR Web site and its content and components. The committee consists of instructor representatives from each division, plus representatives from instructor support departments, and Marketing & Public Relations and Student Services.
How does the Advisory Committee function?
The Advisory Committee meets monthly to review the development of the various components of the AIR web site, give feedback, and report on Task Team activities. Members have been instrumental in gathering information to better understand RRC instructors’ needs and expectations of the site.
